Karen R. Keatley is a Principal and Wealth Manager at Modera Wealth Management, LLC. Her main responsibilities include helping clients develop their financial plans, implementing wealth management strategies and managing clients’ investment portfolios. Karen is also a member of Modera’s Investment Committee.
Karen and her team from Keatley Wealth Management joined Modera in 2020. Karen’s career began more than twenty years ago in economic research and investment management. After completing her MBA at Duke University she served as Vice President at a large insurance company managing a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of fixed-income and private equity investments. She made the transition to investment management and financial planning for individuals as a fee-only advisor because she believes in the importance of quality advice that is not influenced by a sales agenda.
Karen is somewhat unique among financial advisors in that she has earned both the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™) marks of distinction, in addition to an MBA. The depth of her academic study combined with her investment experience enables her to provide exceptional perspective and highly insightful advice for her clients.
Karen has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Kiplinger Personal Finance, MSN.com Money Central, Charlotte Business Journal, and South Park Magazine, among other publications. She has been interviewed on film by local television and is often consulted as a subject matter expert. Karen also contributed to the book, Just Give Me the Answer$: Expert Advisors Address Your Most Pressing Financial Questions (Dearborn Trade Press, April 2004).
Karen is a member of the CFP® Board Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, which is charged with review and enforcement of the CFP® Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct. She has served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of the Women’s Impact Fund, a philanthropic organization which provides more than $400,000 of grant funding each year to non-profit organizations in Mecklenburg County. An amateur singer, Karen has performed with Oratorio Singers of Charlotte and has served on the Boards of Directors for Oratorio Singers of Charlotte and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Karen has two adult children and lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband and her dog. In her free time, she enjoys golf and travel, and cherishes time with family.
For many months, the recurring theme in the news has been the economy: when will we experience a recession or bear market and how bad will the downturn be? Unfortunately, the economic commentary has, more than ever it seems, become infused with politics. The political noise makes it hard to maintain a clear-eyed, objective view of where we are economically.
