What do you value most in your client relationships?

The close connection I have with my clients. It’s gratifying to see the positive impact of collaborative financial planning work on my clients.

What sparked your interest in financial planning?

I grew up in a dysfunctional home in the Seattle area. My parents were under financial pressure and fee-only financial planning and investment management didn’t exist at the time – only people plugging products. My parents got divorced and I believe much of the discord was rooted in financial problems.  Money is a very emotional issue and I enjoy working through these issues with my clients in order to craft practical solutions.

What’s the one thing people say you’re best at?

I’ve been told I’m good at drawing people out so they’re engaged in their planning process. I can explain concepts without drowning them in jargon.

What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?

I appreciate the collegiality and access to technology and human capital resources. I like the team advisory approach we use at Modera with our clients. Previously, I ran my own firm for 18 years; working at Modera takes the burden of compliance and other administrative issues off my shoulders so I’m able to focus on my clients.
