What sparked your interest in financial planning?
I was previously an engineer, so I had to think about this a lot while making the career transition. My initial interest was in simply trying to learn more about managing my personal finances. When I started looking for something other than engineering I spoke with a couple of financial planners I knew through family members and liked the concept of being able to help improve people’s lives.
What fuels you every day in your work?
I still get to solve problems like I did as an engineer, but now it’s people problems, not machine problems. The reward is much more satisfying. And I still get to work with numbers, which makes me happy.
What do you enjoy most about working at Modera?
I enjoy the small size. I can talk with anyone in the firm. I could never do that at my previous employer. I also like having so many advisers to learn from and share knowledge with. I believe it is extremely beneficial to have access to so many resources.
Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Hampton, Georgia, which is about 30 miles south of Atlanta. I live in McDonough, Georgia now, which is a neighboring town to Hampton. I still have some family close by which is important to me with small children at home.
